Shooting Back:
Israeli occupation filmed by 100 Palestinian

[h/t - Homeyra]

Update 8/1

One of the segments in the above video - the shooting of the handcuffed and blindfolded man - was filmed by a young Palestinian lady. We now find out that this girl's father has been "arrested" by Israeli solders. This from International Middle East Media Center:
Last week, soldiers kidnapped resident Jamal Hussein Ameera, 50, after his daughter managed to capture on film an Israeli soldiers shooting a Palestinian youth after they arrested and handcuffed him. The father was sentenced on Tuesday to one hundred days imprisonment.

The father was kidnapped by the soldiers less than a week after the story was exposed as the footage showed one of the soldiers aiming at the leg of the bound Palestinian youth and shooting him.

Ameera was kidnapped while working in his olive orchard close to an area where the Annexation Wall is being constructed.

Update 7/31

Palestinian boy, 10, dies as Israeli troops fire on demonstration
The escalation in violence came as an Israeli commander, Lieutenant Colonel Omri Bruberg, who leads the battalion operating around Ni'ilin, was suspended for 10 days until military investigators decide whether there is enough evidence to indict him.

Bruberg is under investigation for his alleged role in the close-range shooting of a 27-year-old Palestinian man, Ashraf Abu-Rahma in the foot this month.

The incident was recorded by a 17-year-old girl from the village and shows Omri holding him by the arm while another soldier, a metre away, fires at the 27-year-old Palestinian's foot.

Abu-Rahma had been protesting at the barrier in Ni'ilin when he was later detained, blindfolded and handcuffed by the army, which then imposed a four-day curfew on the town of Ni'ilin.

Send Karl Rove to Jail!

SIGN THE PETITION!

Send Karl to Jail

Karl Rove has made a career out of distorting facts to destroy political rivals. In the case of former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman, he went even further: he deliberately put a political opponent in prison based on trumped up charges. The GOP couldn’t beat the most successful Democratic politician in recent Alabama history at the ballot box. So instead, at Karl Rove’s direction, the Bush Justice Department used U.S. attorneys to cook up a false criminal case against Siegelman in order to hand the Governor’s Mansion over to the Republican Party.

It’s no surprise that Karl Rove puts politics before due process, democracy and civil rights. That’s why even when faced with a subpoena from Congress, Rove has refused to testify. Unlike Don Siegelman, Karl Rove is breaking the law.

Rove believes that he is not only above the law, but that he controls it. He’s wrong.

Sign our petition. Send Karl Rove to jail.

UPDATE 7/18 2:40PM ET: 20k+ signatures, and Don Siegelman just challenged McCain to compel Rove to testify.

UPDATE 7/21 8PM ET: 77k signatures! Watch Bill O'Reilly tell Rove "Who in their right mind would want to go into a House committee, which is just a dog and pony show?"

Creating a Torture Culture

I guess we've been doing it for a long time, but there really seemed to be a global shift away from this action until... until it didn't seem that way at all anymore. It is better that it both seems that torture is not done and that it really is not done. So maybe we could look at all this bad press as a good thing...?

Developing...

[Click Chart to Enlarge]

The U.S. Climate Change Science Program and the Subcommittee on Global Change Research today released a scientific assessment that provides the first comprehensive analysis of observed and projected changes in weather and climate extremes in North America and U.S. territories. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change previously evaluated extreme weather and climate events on a global basis in this same context. However, there has not been a specific assessment across North America prior to this report.
